, Top Ten Tips, Make Your MacBook Really Perform

The web has been buzzing with news about Apple’s WWDC 2012. One of the strongest eye catchers is the new MacBook Pro. Check out this Top-Ten-Tips-Make-Your-MacBook-Really-Perform video to see what it looks like.

For those who aren’t quite ready to jump to the new MacBook pro, there is still hope. Several sites offer tips to help users speed up the sluggish mac. Here are 10 tips, compiled from top articles like: CBS News’s “7 Ways to Make Your Mac Run Better” and Business Insider’s “10 Ways To Make Your Mac Run Faster Right Now”, designed to make the current Mac run faster. Open each user’s home folder (click on the little house),

    1. Open the “library” folder, then the “application support” folder. This folder contains a folder for each app ever installed. Drag folders for unused or unwanted apps to the trash.
    2. Open the “Downloads” folder for each user. This is where most browsers store downloaded files, they tend to accumulate. Simply drag unwanted files to the trash.
    3. Unlike those other OS’s, removing apps from a Mac is simple. Go to the hard-drive, usually named “Macintosh HD,” and open the “Applications” folder. Remove any unwanted apps by simply draging them to the trash.
    4. When it comes to organization, nobody is perfect. As a result, files tend to gather in the Desktop and Documents folders. To make use of the Mac better, sort these files. To create a new folder, hold the control key down and click on a blank spot on the Desktop or documents folder. Use the menu to create a new folder and type a name for it. Alternatively, the file menu has a “new folder” option. To sort files, just drag  them into the folders.
    5. Find out which apps are hogging CPU and memory resources. From the Applications folder, open the Utilities folder, and choose “Activity Monitor.” Restarting the resource hogs and shutting down programs that aren’t needed will boost performance.
    6. Prevent unused apps from starting up. Open “System Prefferences” in the dock, then choose Accounts. From the Login Items tab, remove any unwanted applications by selecting and clicking the minus sign.
    7. emptying the trash will free up disk space. This is especially important considering all the old files deleted in previous steps. To do this, hold the “control” key down and click the trash can. Next, click empty.
    8. From the Applications folder, open the Utilities folder, then open “Disk Utility.” From here, check the integrity of the hard drive. Click on the main partition, usually named “Macintosh HD”, then from the “First Aid” tam, choose to “Verify disk permissions,” and “Verify Disk.” After each of these, a list of any found errors will be displayed. If there are errors, click “repair Permissions” and “Repair Disk.”
    9. Keep the computer up-to-date. From the Apple menu, choose to check for updates. Be sure to install all of the provided updates.
    10. Another way to make the current Mac really scream is to upgrade its memory. SMS Memory Solutions offers modules that match Apple’s OEM Specifications. If you don’t feel comfortable choosing the memory modules for your machine, visit the Mac Memory Configurator . SMS Memory offers the perfect match for most Mac desktops and laptops, including: SODIMM modules for MacBook Pro, as well as modules for Mac Mini and MacBook.
